Zingo's Cafe in Bakersfield offers a comfortable, down-to-earth spot to settle in for a classic American breakfast or a hearty lunch. Located on Buck Owens Boulevard, the cafe feels like a neighborhood staple that blends traditional diner charm with some thoughtful updates from its new owners. The interior is clean and welcoming, with attentive staff who help keep the service moving smoothly even during busy mornings.

This is the kind of place where large portions are the norm, which is perfect if you’re coming in famished or with a group. Breakfast is a particular draw here, with generous plates of chicken fried steak and eggs, chili verde omelets paired with hash browns, and biscuits smothered in sausage gravy. The opening hours from 6:30 AM make it a convenient stop for early risers looking for a filling start before work or weekend errands.

Lunch and dinner options keep the focus on comfort food classics done well — the French Dip sandwich stacked high with fresh beef and a rich au jus, fish and chips that balance a crisp exterior with tender, flaky fish, and sandwiches like the chicken melt and pastrami & cheese cater to those craving straightforward, satisfying flavors. The casual, lively atmosphere reflects a local crowd that enjoys familiar dishes served without fuss but with plenty of care.

A notable aspect of Zingo's is its community ties, especially a Wednesday morning tradition honoring veterans, which adds a layer of local significance beyond just dining. This kind of gesture, alongside the steady flow of friendly interactions from servers, reinforces the cafe’s role as more than just a meal stop but a place where Bakersfield locals feel recognized and welcomed.

Overall, Zingo's Cafe suits early birds and anyone looking for a hearty meal in a relaxed setting. It’s a practical spot for families, veterans, and breakfast lovers alike — with enough variety on the menu to keep regulars coming back. If you value a friendly vibe paired with hefty portions and a sense of local connection, Zingo’s is worth timing your visit for a weekday morning or a busy weekend brunch.

I needed to add that Zingo’s now Honors Veterans, retired or active duty, all branches, every Wednesday morning from 0800 till around 1000. Bring a picture of the service member to add to their forever growing Wall of Honor! This restaurant has recently been purchased by the new owners who have done a magnificent job in remodeling yet keeping some of this history everyone knows and loves. I had the Ortega Burger with Onion Rings and hubby had the Chicken Fried Steak Sandwich with French Fries and a salad. Everything was superbly prepared and most delicious. He then had the Peach Dump Cake which was heavenly. The inside is beautiful and the young helpers were darling yet professional. I highly recommend everyone stopping by to get an amazing meal with such hospitality. Enjoy!

Nice, clean look. The staff is very friendly and attentive. We've been several times now since the new owners bought the place and the food has been cooked perfectly every time, no matter what we ordered. Today, we got the lunch specials. The French dip was stacked with fresh beef on a perfect roll and a flavorful au jus. The fish and chips were perfectly crisp, flaky, and tender. We've also had breakfast before. The meats were fresh and not dry like so many places, the eggs were fluffy. The French toast great and the biscuits with chocolate gravy were awesome (but more like a dessert). We are definitely going back more often.

I’ve loved Zingos for many years and was a little concerned when it changed owners but I have to say, it’s just as amazing, if not even better now! The service is top-notch, the food is absolutely to die for, and the atmosphere feels so welcoming. Zingos was always known for their biscuits and gravy, and honestly, I love their new sausage gravy even more, it’s delicious! The staff is outstanding, and I often see the owner there helping out, which really shows how much he cares. On top of that, the restaurant is veteran-owned and even has a beautiful veteran dedication wall, which makes the place even more special. Highly recommend!

Wow. Can’t say enough about Zingos’ delicious food. Our group had the corner round booth - 5 adults and 1 toddler. Not one complaint: good food, friendly people, bright & clean atmosphere. Bonus points for the beautiful American Flag and veteran display on the wall. (Be sure to try the chocolate gravy - lightly sweet and soooo yummy on a biscuit.)

I recently made my first visit to Zingo’s and enjoyed fried okra, navy bean soup, a wonderful grilled pork chop and mashed red potatoes with brown gravy. The food was absolutely outstanding, and had that home cooked, feel to it. The navy bean soup was a family recipe and absolutely delicious! The fried okra never made it to the photos because that got gobbled up first. The pork chop was thick, brined, Frenched and cooked to perfection. Dalton was our server and provided excellent customer service. We were greeted the moment we walked in the front door and welcome to sit anywhere we wanted. It is thoroughly entertaining to sit at the counter and watch all the food come and go. I highly recommend Zingo’s For an enjoyable dining experience.
